We have big news to share—Parent Magazine has a new publisher and a new chapter ahead. SOCIAL Magazines has officially welcomed Parent into its family, bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and a renewed commitment to local parents.
Leading the way is Heather Vreeland, someone who cares deeply about helping parents feel supported, seen, and connected. Under her direction, Parent is returning to print in 2026 and growing into a resource that reflects the real lives of families in our community.
We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. To help you get to know Heather—and the heart behind this new chapter—we sat down with her for a quick Q&A. Here’s what she shared.
Can you tell our readers a little about yourself and what brought you to Parent Magazine?
I’m a mom, a magazine publisher, and someone who believes wholeheartedly in the power of local connection. For nearly a decade, my work with SOCIAL Magazines has centered on helping people feel more rooted in their community. When the opportunity to steward Parent Magazine came along, it felt like a natural extension of that mission. As a parent myself, I know how overwhelming the world of advice, algorithms, and information overload can be. I wanted to create something tangible that parents could hold in their hands and feel supported by. That’s what brought me here.
What made you feel this was the right next chapter—for you personally and for the magazine?
For me personally, this was about purpose. Parenting can feel isolating, and yet we’re all craving the same things—connection, reassurance, and access to real, local resources. Parent Magazine has always had a loyal following, but like many long-standing publications, it needed fresh energy, modern structure, and a renewed sense of mission. I knew my experience building systems, strengthening editorial standards, and scaling community publications could help give it that next chapter. And for me, stepping into a magazine centered on families and children felt not just meaningful, but necessary.
You’re stepping into a publication that’s been part of local family life for years. What excites you most about continuing that tradition?
Being able to bring the print version back to life! I want to broaden the horizons of what local families can discover—programs, tools, experts, support systems—things they might never find if they’re relying solely on digital algorithms. Continuing that legacy in print, but with deeper substance and a stronger local lens, is incredibly energizing.
What changes can readers expect to see?
The biggest change is intention. Every page will be more thoughtful, more local, and more aligned with what modern families truly need. You’ll see:
Stronger editorial quality—stories with local depth, heart, and practical value.
More local experts and resources––voices and guidance from people who actually live and work in our community.
A beautiful, modern design, because parents deserve something that feels inspiring.
And behind the scenes, we’re implementing systems and processes that will keep the magazine consistent, reliable, and organized—something every publication needs to thrive long-term.
The heart of Parent Magazine remains the same… we’re just elevating the experience.
Tell us a bit about your family—who keeps you busy at home?
My husband (and business partner), Andrew and I have two kids—Asher and Ada—who keep our lives delightfully full and unpredictable. They are my daily reminder of why resources like Parent Magazine matter. Like every family, we’re in that mix of homework, hobbies, growing pains, and sweet moments that come out of nowhere. They’re the reason I care so deeply about creating something that supports families right where they are. We want to do everything we can to elevate the family unit through our daily work and Parent Magazine will help us continue that mission.
Since this is our holiday issue—how do you and your family like to celebrate the season? Any special traditions you look forward to each year?
The holidays in our home are all about slowing down and doing everything we can to find the magic in the small moments. We love decorating the house together and we try to remember how lucky we are to live in a real-life Hallmark Movie, downtown St. Augustine! When we travel, I buy Christmas tree ornament souvenirs at the locations. It’s a simple ritual, but when we unpack those ornaments each December, it feels like opening a time capsule of our family’s story.
More than anything, the season is a reminder to be present—to enjoy the cozy chaos, the togetherness, and the chance to reset before the new year.
