As we step into April, we celebrate the incredible achievements of our students and look forward to the excitement of graduation season in May. This time of year is always inspiring as we see the dedication of our teachers, administrators and staff reflected in the success of our students.
In our community, we take great pride in recognizing students not only for their academic accomplishments but also for their outstanding character. With that in mind, I’m thrilled to highlight two upcoming events that honor the excellence within our student body.
On April 23, we will host the annual American Youth Character Awards banquet, recognizing over 110 students for their exceptional character. These awards honor students who serve as role models for their peers, embodying the Six Pillars of Character—Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Nominees are selected based on demonstrating these values, including overcoming challenges, making ethical choices and engaging in meaningful community service. Junior honorees will receive a certificate and a lapel pin, while seniors will be awarded medals and a $500 scholarship. Additionally, nine seniors will be recognized as Pursuing Victory with Honor nominees for exemplifying these character traits in athletics, with the top honoree receiving an additional $1,000 award.
On May 1, we will proudly celebrate 126 seniors at the annual STAR event. These students have distinguished themselves by graduating in the top 3% of their class. STAR, which stands for Students Taking Academic Responsibility, acknowledges both academic achievement and the mentorship that shapes students’ educational journeys. Each honoree selects a teacher who has significantly impacted their success. Students will also receive a medal and certificate in recognition of their exceptional accomplishments. It is a privilege to commend these high-achieving students. I am confident they have bright futures ahead.
I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have been recognized for their achievements, as well as all the families, mentors and educators who have supported them throughout their high school journey.
April is National Volunteer Month, and I want to thank all our dedicated volunteers who generously give their time and talents to support the SJCSD. Your commitment to providing our students with early literacy support, tutoring and mentoring is truly invaluable. If you are interested in volunteering and making a meaningful impact in St. Johns County schools, contact Cheryl Freeman, our RSVP/Volunteer Services Coordinator at Cheryl.Freeman@stjohns.k12.fl.us to explore opportunities.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school community.
